The President’s Cup for Falconry represents one of the most prestigious falconry competitions in the United Arab Emirates and the region. The tournament celebrates the rich heritage of falconry, which remains an integral part of Emirati culture and tradition, attracting participants from across the country.
Cultural Significance
However, this event goes beyond mere competition, serving as a platform to preserve and promote traditional falconry practices. The General Locals category specifically provides opportunities for local falconers to demonstrate their expertise and the capabilities of their trained falcons in a professional setting.
In contrast to modern sporting events, falconry competitions maintain deep connections to Bedouin heritage and desert traditions. The various falcon categories, including Hurr and Shaheen classifications, recognize different falcon species and age groups, ensuring fair competition and comprehensive evaluation of falconry skills.
The Abu Dhabi Falconers’ Club continues to play a vital role in organizing such prestigious events, supporting the falconry community, and maintaining high standards for competitions. The club’s efforts contribute significantly to preserving this UNESCO-recognized Intangible Cultural Heritage practice for future generations.
As the General Locals category has concluded, the tournament is expected to continue with additional categories and rounds in the coming days. Organizers have not yet announced the complete schedule for remaining competitions or the final awards ceremony date.
