Abu Dhabi City Municipality has launched a comprehensive awareness campaign aimed at promoting community responsibility for maintaining public recreational facilities across the emirate. The initiative, operating under the slogan “Our Home, Our Responsibility,” seeks to encourage positive behaviors among residents and visitors using parks, gardens, and sports facilities. The campaign aligns with the municipality’s ongoing commitment to provide world-class recreational and sports facilities for all family members, supporting the objectives of the Year of the Family.
According to the municipality, specialized teams conducted numerous field visits to parks, recreational areas, and sports walkways throughout various districts under its jurisdiction. These visits focused on educating facility users about the importance of preserving public amenities, maintaining cleanliness, and upholding the aesthetic appeal of these spaces.
Comprehensive Approach to Public Facility Preservation
The Abu Dhabi public facilities campaign employed a dual strategy combining on-ground engagement with digital outreach. Field teams interacted directly with park visitors and sports facility users to raise awareness about proper waste disposal methods and the importance of protecting green spaces, flowers, and playground areas. The municipality emphasized that proper use and maintenance of these facilities ensures their long-term sustainability and continued service to the community.
Additionally, the initiative included a parallel digital component conducted through the municipality’s official channels and the “Freegna” application. The online campaign distributed educational messages and informational bulletins encouraging residents to take ownership of public spaces and treat them with care.
Community Behaviors and Facility Sustainability
The municipality expressed its expectation that facility users will adopt positive behaviors that enhance the sustainability of recreational infrastructure. These behaviors include maintaining general cleanliness, following proper waste disposal procedures by using designated bins, and avoiding damage to landscaped areas. According to the municipality, such practices are essential for ensuring these facilities remain in optimal condition to serve and bring happiness to community members.
Furthermore, the campaign highlights the municipality’s broader strategy to create family-friendly environments that encourage healthy lifestyles and outdoor activities. The recreational facilities in Abu Dhabi feature international-standard specifications designed to meet the diverse needs of all family members, from children’s playgrounds to sports walkways and green spaces for relaxation.
Year of the Family Alignment
The awareness initiative directly supports the goals of the Year of the Family by promoting shared community spaces where families can gather, exercise, and enjoy quality time together. The municipality indicated that preserving these spaces ensures they continue to contribute to family happiness and well-being. By fostering a culture of shared responsibility, the campaign aims to strengthen community bonds while protecting valuable public infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the municipality continues to invest in developing new recreational and sports facilities across Abu Dhabi, expanding access to high-quality amenities for residents. However, the success of these investments depends significantly on user cooperation in maintaining and respecting the facilities.
In contrast to enforcement-focused approaches, the “Our Home, Our Responsibility” campaign emphasizes education and community engagement. The municipality believes that raising awareness about the collective impact of individual actions will create lasting behavioral change more effectively than punitive measures alone.
The municipality has not announced a specific end date for the awareness campaign, suggesting it may become an ongoing effort to maintain high standards across Abu Dhabi public facilities. Authorities continue to monitor facility conditions and user behaviors to assess the campaign’s effectiveness and determine whether additional measures or educational initiatives may be required in the future.
