  • Careem launches ‘Seeds For Gaza’, a donation initiative to support humanitarian relief and rebuilding efforts in Gaza.
  • Customers can give through the Careem app via direct donations, by buying watermelons or ‘Seeds For Gaza’ t-shirts on Careem Quik, and through orders from more than 100 participating restaurants on Careem Food.
  • In 2025, Careem helped facilitate over USD 700,000 in donations across the region for emergency relief, education, and community initiatives.

Careem has launched ‘Seeds For Gaza’, a community donation initiative to support humanitarian relief and long-term rebuilding in Gaza during the holy month of Ramadan.

Customers can support Gaza through the Careem app in several ways. The in-app “Donate” platform allows direct giving to trusted partners on the ground in a few taps. Every watermelon sold on Careem Quik and every ‘Seeds For Gaza’ t-shirt purchased puts 100% of profits towards relief efforts. More than 100 restaurants on Careem Food, including Al Safadi, Maiz Tacos, and Bait el Khtyar, will direct a portion of each order to the cause.

Mudassir Sheikha, CEO and Co-founder of Careem, commented: “Seeds For Gaza comes from a deep sense of responsibility towards the people of our region. Through this initiative, we’ve made it possible for our customers, restaurant partners, and brands across the region to contribute directly to on-ground relief and long-term rebuilding efforts in Gaza. We believe that when people are given a simple way to help, they will, and together, those contributions can make a real difference.”

The campaign draws on the Arabic language, where a single dot can change the meaning of a word. The initiative reimagines these dots as watermelon seeds, a symbol widely associated with Palestinian resilience. The seeds represent continuity, hope, and a shared commitment to rebuilding. Careem has placed these seeds into its logo across its platforms as a visible sign of solidarity tied to direct action.

‘Seeds For Gaza’ is open to organisations across the region who wish to adopt the campaign identity and back it with direct donations to relief efforts in Gaza. The initiative has already partnered with The Big Heart Foundation. Brands including Tabby, Justlife, Washmen, Wamda Capital, Venture Souq, and FitRepublik have added the seeds to their logos and supported their participation with tangible contributions.

Careem has released an open-licence ‘Seeds For Gaza’ typeface in both Arabic and English, which lets individuals and brands incorporate watermelon seeds into letters as a statement of solidarity. The campaign also includes a ‘Seeds in Your Name’ generator, available at https://seedsforgaza.careem.com/, where people can plant seeds into their own name as a personal pledge for Gaza and share it on social media.

The initiative builds on Careem’s track record of enabling social impact through its platform. In 2025, Careem helped facilitate over USD 700,000 in donations across the region, directed at emergency relief, education, and community initiatives.

‘Seeds For Gaza’ is live across Careem’s platforms. Customers, partners, and organisations can take part through the Careem app or online to donate and support ongoing relief efforts.
