The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation has announced that preparations are complete for the Um Al Emarat Jiu-Jitsu Cup, set to take place this Saturday and Sunday at the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy in Abu Dhabi. The women’s jiu-jitsu championship will feature widespread participation from female athletes representing various clubs and academies across the country, competing across multiple age categories.
According to the federation, the tournament is considered one of the most prominent annual events in women’s jiu-jitsu competitions. The event holds special significance on the federation’s calendar as it provides a crucial competitive platform that helps refine athletes’ skills and enhance their presence on the domestic scene.
Competition Schedule and Structure
The championship will unfold over two days of competition. Saturday’s opening day will feature matches for the under-12, under-14, and under-16 age categories. Meanwhile, Sunday will showcase bouts in the under-18 and senior divisions, with the closing ceremony scheduled for Sunday evening to honor the winning clubs and academies.
The federation has allocated prize money totaling 270,000 dirhams for victorious clubs and academies across all categories. This financial incentive underscores the organization’s commitment to motivating athletes to deliver their best technical performances on the mat.
Strategic Importance for Women’s Jiu-Jitsu Development
Yousef Abdullah Al Batran, a board member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, emphasized that the Um Al Emarat Cup represents a fundamental pillar in the federation’s strategy to develop women’s jiu-jitsu. He stated that the tournament provides a comprehensive competitive environment that helps athletes showcase their technical abilities and gain additional experience.
Additionally, Al Batran highlighted the tournament’s alignment with the UAE’s celebration of the Year of the Family. He explained that the championship embodies the vital role families play in supporting athletes’ journeys and encouraging them to continue pursuing excellence. The event also reflects the federation’s commitment to expanding female participation and creating a new generation of champions capable of competing at the highest levels.
Athletes Prepare for Um Al Emarat Jiu-Jitsu Cup
Al Anoud Al Harbi, a purple belt competitor from Bani Yas Jiu-Jitsu Club competing in the senior category, expressed her enthusiasm about participating in the championship. According to Al Harbi, competing in the Um Al Emarat Jiu-Jitsu Cup represents an important goal for every female athlete because the tournament carries significant moral value alongside its competitive importance.
The athlete revealed that preparations have been intensive during the recent period. She indicated that she looks forward to delivering a strong performance and contributing with her team to maintaining the championship title.
Previous Champions and Competitive Landscape
In the previous edition of the women’s jiu-jitsu tournament, Bani Yas Jiu-Jitsu Club claimed the championship title. Al Jazira Jiu-Jitsu Club finished in second place, while Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu Club secured third position in the overall standings.
However, this year’s competition promises to deliver an enhanced sporting model that keeps pace with the evolution of women’s jiu-jitsu in the UAE. The federation aims to strengthen the sport’s presence on the domestic scene while continuing to support female athletes and empower them to achieve accomplishments.
